The Walter Fund Update

Just wanted to write a post to thank everyone again for the generous donations towards Walter's medical care. He is really coming along well, which is a testament to the staff at VERG, as well as to everyone who supported Walter throughout his ordeal. He's a really special little guy.

We are happy to announce that we are confident that we have raised enough money to cover the cost of Walter's emergency care. The donation button is still up and active, but please donate knowing that any overages will be donated in Walter's name to the ASPCA, local rescues, and shelters so we can try to help other animals in need.

Thank you all again for all you've done. Walter's life could have been very short and painful, but thanks to everyone rallying around him he is going to grow up a healthy, loved, and happy dog.

thank you thank you thank you

  4. We informed the Gate of Walter fund status, and they said the fundraiser is still on, and they want proceeds to be put into a reserve fund for Walter's food, and future Vet bills. Thanks and hope to see you there!

  10. thank you for bringing such visibility to the plight of this amazing little guy! your compassion is so inspiring. as the 'mom' of a 10-month-old pit bull mix (whom my boyfriend and I adopted from a rescue last summer), I cannot express what wonderful, loyal, and loving pets pit bulls make. to know that ANY dog has suffered pains me greatly--and, for various, unconscionable reasons, too many pit bulls suffer. thank you so much for the incredible work you're doing to improve the quality of walter's life. I hope that everyone keeps donating generously to his fund. we send hugs & kissess to walter from jersey city!

  11. Thank you so much for taking this little pit in. They are such wonderful dogs that have so much love to give. I wish we had more people like you in the world to help the pups & to inspire others. Love to Lil' Walter from Tennessee!

  13. We passed by Walter this morning not knowing who he was and just thought what an angelic little face he has. He followed us with his gorgeous eyes and I couldn't stop thinking of him. Strangely, I stumbled upon a story about him online just hours after. I couldn't believe it! I am so happy and relieved for him that he found such incredible and self-less pet parents. You guys are extraordinary and deserve all the love that he will give you.
    Thanks for being great people!!!

  14. You say you've raised enough for his *emergency* care, but from the looks of things, he might not be out of the woods just yet? There will be future vet bills and care, as well as costs for neutering, microchip, insurance and licensing. I'd like to suggest overages go toward a fund for that stuff!

  15. I agree with the others, please continue a blog of Walter as he grows and becomes a happy and healthy adult! I'd love to keep track of his progress.

  16. you guys are amazing - thank you so much!!

  17. I'd also like to second the suggestion that in addition to donations to humane organizations that some of the overages be set aside for Walter's health care needs for the rest of his life! Not to mention all of the treats, beds, blankets and toys he absolutely must have! And I'm sure he'll have an extensive wardrobe to protect his sensitive skin for sun and cold. He deserves not only to be cared for but spoiled for the rest of his life!

Maybe you can create a Walter foundation to continue fundraising for shelter animals as well? His story is so unique and inspirational I bet he could help other shelter pets for years to come!

Thank you for all that you've done for Walter!

  18. please please do not give walter money to the ASPCA- they are the richest animal rescue organization in the country, yet they fail to act to help animals in need time and time again.

their director, ed sayres, had oreo, another VERG patient, who had been thrown off a six-storey building, PUT DOWN, despite offers by several rescue groups to take her. the ASPCA claimed she was vicious, but people who worked with oreo disagree. (google "oreo's law").

one of their vets killed someone's beloved dog:

just last week they declined to take responsibility for a dog they had 'rescued' who ended up in the New York CACC.

    the dog was put down.

i'd bet you a million bucks that if they had gotten their hands on walter he wouldn't be with us today.

for what it's worth, i contributed to walter...why not donate to BARC, a fantastic brooklyn shelter that doesnt make $20 million a YEAR, and then utterly fail new york city's dogs.

  19. A sad story with a HAPPY BEGINNING!...yea for you and Walter and your friends!...MORE people need to be like you all, and those who donated and those who care...I hope the criminal who let Walter get so sick gets in serious trouble or karma catches up real soon!.......and really shame on the person who didnt want to touch him because he was sick...where is humans compassion? THANK GOD FOR YOU ALL..bless you and WALTER have a long happy life together...
and thank you for being light to other animals who are so much in need everywhere!

  20. Hi Walter,
My mom found your blog via a "Life With Dogs" post on Facebook. She has become a fan of yours on Facebook and donated money towards your medical care. You don't have to worry now because you are with great peoples who love you and want you to get better! Why are some peoples so mean and bad to us puppies?

Woofs and licks from your new friend Maggie Mae!

  21. So glad to hear Walter is healing up well. Reading about his story makes me choke up every time. I'm happy that I was able to donate to help with the costs.
I must say though that I agree with the comment to not work with the ASPCA. The bigger a company gets the greedier it'll be, and its obvious that the ASPCA dosen't truly care about its original mission anymore. You'd think with all those millions laying around the ASPCA could afford to help thousands of animals and shelters, but instead they seem to keep it all for their execs. Anyways, just my two cents on that matter.
Please keep updating this blog so we can all check in on Walter from time to time.

  22. We love you Walter! And the ASPCA is a great organization to get any of the money you guys don't need! I wish I could have given more but times are tough. Way to go internet for getting us all together to help this little guy out!!!!

  23. Please I am writing this from India. My brother used to bring dogs like Walter from the streets. Their body had toxins in them as they would chew old leather. In India we use greens so I boiled once spinach and another green called balloon vine with the boiled egg for 10 minutes. I then peeled the egg shell and gave it to one of the dog and I continued this treatment one or two eggs a day and the dog recovered which amazed the vet because he once asked where do you get these dogs. Please try spinach with boiled egg

  26. The amazing thing about this breed...they tend to forgive us no matter what has been done to them. I rescued a bluenose pup @ 6.5 weeks old that was thrown away and he is now turning 3...best dog ever. My name is Walter and his is Diesel...he was FULL of WORMs and had two suspicious cigarette like burns on his side. Here are some pics of his progress.

  27. Great job w/Walter. Last fall i came upon a pit bull that was very emeciated, fed her & waited w/her until Animal control could come get her. While i waited w/her she gave me tons of kisses to show her gratitude. I started to cry for her situation & what a sweet girl she was, if i could have kept her i would have named her Kissie. I hope she was adopted by loving people like the 2 of you. My family & i already have 2 dogs in an apt., so this is the reason we couldn't keep her. Keep up the great job. I saw the story on the Today show, what a sweetie Walter seems to be.
